Israel's enemies are entirely predictable.
One learns this very fast.
Last year at this very time, clashes in Gaza between Islamic militant terrorist groups disguised at Palestinian "Governments", Fatah and Hamas, were in all-out civil war against one another. Next, rockets barraged Israeli towns. Next, our soldiers were kidnapped. Next, war was waged.
Well, Part II of the Rocket Attack has begun and is going on as we speak. On this past Tuesday evening as Israel began celebrating the 40 year anniversary of the Reunification of Jerusalem, Gaza showed they weren't all that into our celebration by attacking the Israeli town of Sederot by raining down rockets. Since then, over 300 rockets have fallen and men, women and children have been wounded and businesses, homes, schools and synagogues destroyed. Israel's Air force and military have responded and are actively going after the terrorists in Gaza while defending Sederot, even as we speak.
What does this mean?
Will Hamas kidnap more soldiers?
Will we go to war again?
It's all just a matter of time.
But as I adjust to Israeli life, the changing of the seasons and the repetition of events gives me that all-too-familiar reminder of war and the need to prepare. Was it really already a year ago since this happened?
The constant sound of helicopters flying over my roof and returning from missions brings me back to memories of last year. The news reports of people injured and killed by rockets tick across the screen at me. It's odd what can trigger a memory and at the same time a warning... even the sound of my fan during these summer nights with the window open to the sound of the helicopters in the early hous of the morning speak to me of one thing: A fast approaching war.
I would like to think that I am more prepared than I was last year. But is anyone truly prepared for war? Just as you go on a rollercoaster ride for the second time... it's a bit scarier than the first because you know what's coming.
Now that summer is here and the same cycle of events have begun again, I realize that the birth pains spoken about the end times are definitely happening. Like timed contractions, the culmination of events is picking up speed.
And though I do not know exactly what is in store, I do know one thing: This is where the rubber hits the road, where my calling to Israel becomes "real". And honestly, it re-energizes me again. I have seen that in times of distress, God rescues His People, reveals Yeshua to them as their Messiah and pours out His Spirit upon us.
So,a warning for any of Satan's army that may be listening: Watch Out.
Part II has begun, but Israel's Deliverer is standing by, and He is never caught off-guard.
