08/09/05 - Israel Update: What Really Matters

Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem!

Shalom Brothers and Sisters in Yeshua,

The Spiritual tension here is almost unbearable at times and we must be wearing the Armor of God and stay in prayer.  Mandy and I have been attacked in our sleep by the enemy.  We believe it’s due to the unfolding events here in Israel because the Enemy is on the prowl.  The spiritual armies of the Lord and the minions of Satan are preparing to fight a battle very soon here.  Almost everyone that’s a Believer can sense this spirit of urgency.  At times I just get chills down my spine.

Today our soldier Tal came to see us and she was telling us more about the disengagement.  There are 50,000 IDF soldiers working in phases for the day of the Gaza disengagement and all of the events they are anticipating will result from it.  This is no small matter.  A friend of mine that is a Special Ops Police Officer told me that last night he was on duty at the Temple Mount and already starting to break up fights and other random things that were escalating.

Combining all of that with my “close call” two nights ago in downtown Jerusalem, I can seriously say that Israel needs your prayers NOW.  I am asking for people to commit to praying and/or fasting on August 13th, the day before the disengagement and of course continuing to pray the day of as the events unfold before us.

My work at the hospital has been going great!  I have a new added responsibility.  Every morning I am in charge of styling and drying the hair of all of our older ladies (15).  Both they and I adore it and I have a lot of fun doing their hair, being a fan of hair myself – LOL.  One woman requested for me to do her hair like mine (how sweet) while another woman said, “Don’t you ever comb your hair?  Your mother must not be very happy with your wild hair.”  She reluctantly let me dry her hair still while I explained that I can’t help the fact that God created me this way and chose for me to have curly hair.  She said, ‘You really believe He chose your hair to be that way?”  I recovered from my minor complex that resulted afterward.  Nothing like being made to be humble!

Do any of you remember that special older man named Sully that used to only eat when I fed him?  He also had a dream that ‘Jesus appeared to him”.  Well, Abdul informed me that he passed away a few days ago.  He had been moved to a hospital before I returned and was fading fast.  I have to wonder if Yeshua was getting his attention in that dream.

We have another patient named Yitzchak.  Yitzchak is what we call a challenge (or crazy is the term they use sometimes!)  He goes from sweet as an angel to mean in mere seconds.  Well, when I first met him he said ‘Oh nice to meet you Erin, I speak a little English myself!”  Before I walked away he was already yelling at me and throwing his coffee at me with a string of expletives!  We never know what to expect with him!

I have been working hard, going downtown every evening to get into the lives of the people here in Israel and sharing my stories and building friendships.  There’s barely enough time to fit it all in and many nights I am not in bed before 1 or 2 AM!  But I adore every second here and adore each person I meet.  I can’t tell you how awesome it is that every discussion that comes up revolves around Messiah and the events that are unfolding.  I truly believe God is calling out this generation and revealing Himself to them in undeniable ways!

And as I sit outside in the Jerusalem breeze with my friends and a cup of hot tea and watch the people walk by and observe my surroundings, I realize, this is what matters most.  Often times we clutter our lives with our jobs, our homes, our possessions and don’t realize how isolated we’ve become.  Who cares what car you drive or where you live when you are surrounded by friends that love you and desire to learn more about Yeshua.

But then again, maybe this is what happens when you leave the ways of this world behind and take the dive.  Come on in, the water’s fine.  It looks unpredictable but it’s a step worth taking, a life that will never leave you lacking and an adventure beyond your wildest dreams!

In the lyrics of a Nichole Nordeman song: “So long status quo, I think I’ll just let go, you make me want to be brave.  The way it was is no longer good enough, you make me want to be brave.”

John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
