The Character Sketch of God - An attempt to reveal His Power.

By Erin Adams

Many speak of God and don’t realize the fragment upon which they’ve placed their entire faith. They hold the tiny shard of “love” maybe “omniscience” and forsake the entirety of “I Am”. They don’t see the accomplice to the tiny shard. They choose to develop that shard into an entire character and call it “God”. It suits them fine to believe that God isn’t beyond what they’ve grasped thus far. It suits them well to have this safe, little fragment in which to tighten their fists around. Yet they don’t see the deepness of a cut that even the tiniest shard can penetrate. With hands held out in defiance, they announce their faith to be “Just So” and don’t dare force them beyond this point. With little knowledge but big hearts they seek only that which produces comfort in their faith. These are the babes. To them belong the milk of the Word.

Yet there are others who are no longer satisfied with the shard. They want to see the complete entire wholeness of that which is the true Character of the Creator. They long to gaze through the entire glass window to see through to the other side. Willingly, yet still timidly, they press on. As a child glancing through the window of a toyshop, they press their face against the glass begging to be let in to see and to hold the very completeness of that which is “The Christ”. These are the mature members. To them belong the meat of the Word.

Some are not satisfied with a shard of glass from the window. To this I dedicate the following Character Sketch of God. This is how I’ve come to see His Character according to my own reading of His Living, Breathing Word.

This barely scrapes the surface of the window that stares into the deepness of our “All in All”. Take the shard, if you will. But there are those that want all of God – His entirety as revealed through His own self – the Word – His very character. The very God people call Hope is the very God that offers Judgement to those who are against Him. The very God that is a warrior is the very same God who grants prosperity. The same God who forgives also condemns the evil. In a world where absolutes are washed away, a place where the glass becomes dull and weathered, it is time to see the perfection. You are no longer the child, you are a man. You are no longer the child, you are a woman. Will you linger in the grip of a shard, a fragment of His entirety? Or will you see the plate of glass before you and long for the God of the entire Bible. It is time to look through the glass and face the Holiness of a Majestic, Jealous, Righteous and Powerful God. Put away the shard, grow beyond your place of comfort, and see the Character Sketch of God. Tremble in His presence, dance at His feet, Cry out from your desperation, be embraced by His love, Sing for His Holiness, loosen your sandals, rebuild the wall, be cleansed in His blood, be struck by His fear, be purified by His Grace, be humbled by your sin, be a city on a hill, be a reverent steward, be a joyous victor, be an awe-struck observer and be a holy vessel. Embrace the Character of The One True God.
1Corinthians 13:10-12 “But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.”
